Are you a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Pharmacist? Do you want the chance to help shape a new and genuinely innovative service for the women of Kent and Medway? We are creating Kent and Medway's first, and only, NHS Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for women, and are seeking a talented Clinical Pharmacist to help us deliver this vital service. The start date for this post is February 2026 to allow for onboarding, induction, and training before the anticipated arrival of the first patient in April 2026. This role suits pharmacists with previous mental health and hospital experience who are looking to consolidate their skills, as well as those with a genuine interest in mental health from another sector. You will have the opportunity to work across all bedded wards in the Dartford locality.
You will be provided with opportunities for personal growth and development, including support for post-graduate qualifications in mental health pharmacy. Some of our pharmacists are qualified as independent prescribers, and opportunities to qualify and practice as prescribers will grow as our team develops.
This role comes with a High Cost Area Supplement: 5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum of £1303 per year and a maximum of £2198 per year (divided into 12 equal amounts and paid monthly). The salary listed is inclusive of the High-Cost Area Allowance.
Duties
In this role, you will assist the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Chief Pharmacist, and Deputy Chief Pharmacist in developing a comprehensive medicines management service to patients in the locality. Duties will include:
* Providing a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to the female psychiatric intensive care unit as part of the local pharmacy teams rotational model.
* Developing close working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team and contributing to clinical care plans.
* Responding to medication-related queries, providing advice on prescribing and promoting evidence-based practice.
* Discussing medication with patients and carers and developing a variety of approaches to support informed care.
* Working closely with pharmacy colleagues in other localities and within community mental health teams to ensure a high-quality medicines management and optimisation service across the Trust.
* Educating colleagues (including doctors and nurses) about medicines management and medicines optimisation.
