Programme Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
Post Graduate Diploma (Master’s Level 11) Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) – One Year Trainee Post – commencing 14 September 2026 at Glasgow Caledonian University. The programme is a full‑time commitment over one academic year and combines academic study at university with supervised clinical learning in practice.
Responsibilities
* Be employed as a Trainee Health Visitor on a permanent contract aligned to the duration of the programme.
* Engage in supervised clinical learning within a nominated Health and Social Care Partnership.
* Develop and apply the skills, knowledge and attitudes of specialist community public health nursing.
* Maintain academic engagement with the Postgraduate Diploma curriculum.
Qualifications & Eligibility
* Registered Nurse or Midwife with current NMC registration.
* Evidence of study at Honours level, such as a first degree with honours, or a successful completion of an honours level module within the past five years.
* Motivation for Health Visiting and commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.
* Relevant professional experience and demonstration of leadership, communication and organisational skills appropriate for a Band 7 trainee.
Salary and Terms
Salary will be in line with the Agenda for Change, Band 7 Annex 21 during training, in accordance with national guidance. Annual leave during the training year will align with the University academic calendar to meet NMC training requirements. Normal NHS leave entitlement is suspended for the year of training and trainees follow the University calendar for all holidays.
