Conservation Officer 10hrs pw, initial 6-month contract with potential for extension. (Ideally a self-employed contract but an employee fixed term role can be considered ). £16.50-£19.00 per hour (rate offered dependent on experience and employment status). Contract delivery will include a mix of site-based work in and around Kemerton, Worcestershire, including meetings at Kemerton Court, and home-based work. Occasional requirement to attend other locations for project meetings or CPD, mileage will be paid at £0.45 per mile for this additional travel. Full UK driving licence essential. About the Role Are you passionate about wildlife and conservation? KCT is looking for a motivated self-employed individual to join our small but dedicated team, helping us to conserve wildlife and places of beauty in our local area. As Conservation Officer, you would be responsible for carrying out wildlife surveys, including breeding bird surveys, managing volunteer surveyors, helping manage our existing nature reserves, carrying out practical habitat management, working with our Governors and Support Coordinator to plan and deliver new projects in the local area, working with other local land managers and wildlife organisations on partnership projects, helping deliver events for our members and the public, and collating and entering wildlife records into Recorder. You would have scope to tailor elements of the role to suit your areas of expertise or interest. The contract is for 6 months initially but with potential to extend. This role is exciting, varied and flexible. It would suit someone with initiative, a passion for wildlife, and the ability to prioritise and balance a diverse workload and meet deadlines. KCT has an excellent reputation locally and nationally for our conservation work, despite our small size, and we are looking for an enthusiastic naturalist to enhance our team and help us deliver our goals. Applicants should have a solid knowledge of environmental legislation in England and have relevant environmental qualifications or equivalent experience. Training will be provided on Recorder (our biological records database). Experience and Skills Essential Skills Good bird identification skills and a grasp of general wildlife ID Experience of bird survey techniques Excellent report writing skills A good understanding of wildlife habitats and their management, especially wetlands Experience in supervising volunteers Experience in managing a project including liaising with contractors and budget oversight Good organisational and communication skills A good grasp of Excel, Word and Powerpoint Full UK driving licence Desirable Skills Good plant identification skills Experience of plant surveys Experience working with partner organisations/land managers Experience writing grant applications Experience using biological records databases Habitat management skills such as tree planting, installing bird boxes etc First Aid training (Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is required for the role, but funded training will be offered for the right candidate if required) Willingness to improve survey and ID skills through self-led study and fully funded CPD such as ID workshops Closing Date: Monday 13th April 2026 at noon.
