The Director, Global Field Engineering reports to the VP of Global Field Engineering and is accountable for managing the International Field Engineering Team, ensuring efficient deployment of field engineering resources across TNT Sports, Eurosport and CNN. The role requires overseeing the team across Old Street and Chiswick offices and frequent travel to sports events for onsite live production evaluation and execution optimization.
Team Management
* Lead, hire, train and oversee ~12 team members across EMEA (1 Supervisor and Engineers/Associates).
* Provide 24/7 broadcast and IT services to support live sports and news broadcasts at any business‑determined location.
* Drive the evolution of team capabilities, including recruitment, onboarding and delegation, adapting to changing workloads and technology complexities.
* Mentor and develop team members, conduct performance reviews, give constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
Collaboration and Process Improvement
* Engage Eurosport leaders and TNT Sport technical operations in planning and staffing event requirements, strengthening partnerships.
* Assist the VP in setting strategy and departmental goals aligned with stakeholder priorities.
* Manage budget and staffing, addressing fluctuations in resources and technology requirements.
* Work with News & Sports Planning and peers to develop deployment assignments, improve processes and enhance resource efficiency.
* Establish regular communication with regional business and cross T&O departments, focusing on service and support needs.
* Explore and implement new field technology and best practices to optimize remote executions in line with global strategies.
* Oversee MFP (REMI) kit adoption and workflow changes, ensuring minimal disruption.
* Lead workstreams with News and Sports Production and LPP Engineering to ensure cohesive scheduling technology strategies.
Remote Execution and Event Coordination
* Frequent travel to sports events to evaluate onsite live productions, consult with onsite customers and identify execution efficiencies.
* Ensure the Global FE teams deliver field production technology executions on time to meet live broadcast deadlines.
* Ensure field gear readiness, aligning with commercial objectives and maximizing revenue opportunities.
* Oversee highly visible event productions of live broadcasts in cooperation with Sport & News programming teams.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in a senior events execution and field technology teams’ management role within a news and sports media organization.
* Extensive experience in live and sport field technology deployments and implementations.
* Strong leadership and team management skills, motivating, developing and inspiring a team.
* Proven track record of directing successful teams, delivering to the highest standards.
* Collaborative ability with other service delivery internal departments.
* Proactive troubleshooting, problem‑solving and issue avoidance.
* Adaptable and flexible in a challenging, demanding, fast‑paced environment.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the department globally.
* Experience in budget and expense management.
Hybrid Working
This role is advertised as a hybrid work model, combining remote and in‑office work, in accordance with current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager.
