An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven A&E Registrar to join a dynamic and supportive Emergency Department team in the East Midlands. Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Deliver direct clinical care on the Emergency Department (ED) “shop floor”, including leading trauma and medical resuscitations.
* Manage patients in the resuscitation area and Short Stay Unit (SSU), working closely with the nursing team and junior medical colleagues.
* Provide senior support and supervision to junior doctors and trainees.
* Participate in the daily ward round and contribute to the clinical management of patients admitted to the 12-bed SSU, including developing and implementing clinical protocols and care pathways.
* Participate in the 1:15 consultant on-call rota, which includes evening and weekend shifts. On-call responsibilities include clinical presence until 12:30 AM on weekdays.
* Contribute to the daily functioning of the ED through named “EPIC” (Emergency Physician in Charge) duties, ensuring smooth department flow.
* Engage in regular job planning and annual appraisals as part of the Medicine and Emergency Care Division.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching sessions for medical students and junior staff.
Job Plan Highlights
* Full-time post with a standard 10 PA job plan (7.5 DCC / up to 2.5 SPA).
* Evening and weekend shifts are included in the rotation, with 1:6 weekends typically worked.
* Dedicated SPA time supports professional development, clinical governance activities, research, and teaching.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential:
* MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
* Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Valid life support provider status in ALS, ATLS, and APLS/EPLS
Desirable:
* Instructor status in any of the above life support courses
Experience Essential:
* At least 2 years of experience in Emergency Medicine
* Strong understanding of UK Emergency Medicine practices and systems
Desirable:
* Subspecialty experience in areas such as Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, Anaesthetics, Geriatrics, CDU/Ambulatory Care
* Experience in simulation-based training, digital health innovation, or electronic patient records (e.g. SystmOne)
