Protocol Education is working closely with a specialist setting in the South Shields area to recruit a Teaching Assistant who can support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate and experienced team who are committed to helping students overcome barriers to learning and thrive in their education. The Role: Support pupils aged between 7 and 16 with SEMH and related behavioural needs. Provide individualised and small-group support both inside and outside of the classroom. Build strong relationships with students based on trust, consistency and encouragement. Help implement behaviour support strategies and promote positive emotional wellbeing. What we’re looking for: Someone with previous experience in SEMH, SEND, youth work or a similar background. A calm and confident communicator who can manage challenging situations. A team player who’s flexible, reliable and passionate about inclusive education. Training in de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach) is desirable but not essential.
