Volunteer Lead Trustee for Safeguarding
Volunteer Lead trustee for safeguarding | Sexual Assault and Abuse Support Service Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes
We support individuals affected by sexual assault and abuse to live fulfilling lives regardless of gender, race and sexuality. We do this by providing a safe space and using enabling and empowering approaches.
What difference will you make?
By working with the current board to advise and oversee our strategic plan and relevant policies, the organisation can ensure its services are sustainable, and that the growing demand for support from those who have experienced sexual abuse is met safely.
What are we looking for?
What skills are we looking for? Our ideal trustee will have relevant skills and professional experience in safeguarding adults and/or children. Our ideal trustee will have relevant and up-to-date knowledge on current legislation and best practice related to safeguarding adults and/or children.
What will you be doing?
While safeguarding is the responsibility of all trustees, we are seeking a trustee who has skills, experience and confidence in the area of safeguarding to serve as a lead trustee for safeguarding. The role will require 1-2 hours per month including regular catch ups with the charity's designated safeguarding lead and a trustee meeting on the third Wednesday of every other month which is currently online. Our volunteers and trustees have real lives, so flexibility is accounted for. In addition to their wider responsibilities as a trustee, the lead trustee for safeguarding will take on three main sets of duties related to safeguarding strategic planning, effective policy and practice, and creating the right culture. They will work closely with the CEO and safeguarding lead to consider the organisation's strategic plans and make sure they reflect best practice related to safeguarding; ensure effective policies and practices are in place across the organisation; champion safeguarding throughout the organisation; and support to manage any serious safeguarding cases. We are looking for someone with relevant skills and professional experience in safeguarding adults and/or children, who is driven, enthusiastic and determined to make a positive impact. We do not require someone with previous experience as a charity trustee; training will be provided.
