The role

<div><p>12 month Fixed Term Post to cover upcoming maternity leave. Working within the Oncology speciality team to manage the patient pathway taking into consideration all aspects of that pathway to include:</p><ul><li>NHS national performance targets.</li><li>Track and pursue all results ensuring they are managed appropriately.</li><li>Ensure all patients receive appointments in a timely fashion and any other aspect of managing the patient pathway.</li><li>Work with other Patient Navigators (PN) to ensure timely care and optimal waiting list management for all patients in relevant specialities.</li><li>Supervise secretaries and clerical officers within the speciality admin teams on a day‑to‑day basis, escalating any concerns or issues to the Administration Manager.</li><li>Exercise initiative commensurate with the role and maintain confidentiality at all times.</li><li>Oversee the allocation and distribution of work ensuring that the Standard Operating Procedure is adhered to.</li><li>Supervise and monitor new staff.</li><li>Provide an administrative service for the specialties, Consultants and their Multi‑Disciplinary Teams when necessary.</li><li>Apply knowledge and independent judgement to deal with enquiries/problems from patients and others on their behalf.</li><li>Arrange meetings, type agendas and take accurate minutes.</li><li>Attend Multi‑Disciplinary Team meetings for the relevant specialty where necessary.</li><li>Liaise with all staff concerned with patient services, e.g. Medical, Nursing staff, Medical Records Department, X‑ray Department, Patient Contact Centre and Management.</li><li>Participate in the review or drafting of departmental policies and procedures when required.</li><li>Co‑operate fully in the introduction of new technology and new methods of working appropriate to the role of a secretary and clerical officer.</li><li>Through self‑development, continuously update best ways of working and maintain and improve knowledge and competence.</li><li>Work as a team member and as a leader when required, adhering to strict deadlines.</li><li>Assist with the investigation and compilation of responses to complaints within optimum deadlines.</li><li>Undertake all mandatory training as required by the Trust.</li></ul><p>We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.</p><p>FGH and the RLI provide a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant‑led services. WGH offers a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.</p><p>All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.</p><p>Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high‑quality care, advice and support.</p></div>
