Role Overview:
As Packhouse Manager, you will take responsibility for leading and managing all aspects of packhouse operations. This includes overseeing the packing, grading, and dispatch of fresh produce to ensure products consistently meet customer specifications. The packhouse handles over 4000 tonnes per year of a variety of berries,and other speciality crops. You will drive efficiency, maintain high standards of quality and food safety, and manage a large team during peak season.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operational Leadership: Manage daily packhouse activities, ensuring the timely and accurate packing of produce to customer requirements.
* Quality & Food Safety: Enforce and monitor compliance with HACCP, retailer standards, and food safety legislation.
* Team Management: Lead, train, and motivate seasonal and permanent staff, ensuring shift planning and resource allocation are efficient.
* Health & Safety: Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring full compliance with health & safety protocols and audits.
* Continuous Improvement: Monitor throughput, efficiency, waste, and yields, implementing improvements where possible.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with harvest, logistics, and quality teams to align operations with customer demand.
* Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate production, performance, and compliance records.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience managing operations within a fresh produce packhouse or food manufacturing environment.
* Strong knowledge of quality control and food safety systems (HACCP).
* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage large seasonal teams.
* Organised, adaptable, and capable of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
* Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
* Understanding of packhouse machinery and processes.
