Job Description
Your new company
A large service provider in the Worthing area with public sector links. Due to movement, a Senior Prosecutions Solicitor is required on a permanent basis.
Your new role
You will manage a varied caseload of criminal and regulatory matters from investigation through to conclusion. This will include preparing cases for prosecution, attending court, and seeing matters through to sentencing and appeal where required. The role sits across both sides of the process. You will be responsible for bringing prosecutions on behalf of the business, as well as handling defence work when the organisation is subject to regulatory action.
You will either conduct your own advocacy or instruct and manage external Counsel, depending on the nature of the matter. There is also an element of supervision, supporting a more junior prosecutions' solicitor within the team. Given the geographic spread of the organisation and the courts involved, the role requires travel and the ability to work flexibly. The working pattern is hybrid, although "office" days will often be dictated by court attendance.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with strong experience in criminal prosecutions, ideally with around 10 years' PQE or more background in either prosecution or defence work is of interest. Candidates from local authorities, regulatory bodies, utilities, oil and gas, or similar environments will be particularly relevant.
You must be comfortable managing your own caseload, handling matters end to end, and operating with a good degree of autonomy. Courtroom experience is essential, and for more senior candidates, Higher Rights of Audience will be expected.
Environmental experience is beneficial but not essential. The key requirement is a solid grounding in prosecutions and regulatory work, along with the ability to adapt to a specialist area. You will also need to be able to travel regularly given the spread of courts and operational sites.
What you'll get in return
A salary ranging from £65,000 up to £85,000 + car allowance. You will be joining a sizeable and well-regarded legal team of around 30 lawyers, supported by additional non-legal staff, with a defined prosecution function already in place. This is a role with real responsibility, visibility and impact within the business.
