Role Purpose
The successful candidate will play an essential role in delivering accurate bookkeeping services for a varied portfolio of clients. This position suits someone who enjoys working in a professional yet down‑to‑earth team, where curiosity is encouraged, questions are welcomed, and no one is above making a round of tea.
Key Responsibilities
Using accounting software and technology to manage efficient data entry
Reconciling ledgers, including bank, credit card and cash
Reconciling control accounts
Preparing and submitting VAT returns
Preparing and submitting CIS returns
Posting journals (e.g., PAYE, VAT, pensions)
Maintaining accurate and organised electronic filing
Resolving bookkeeping queries and discrepancies
Following internal systems and procedures to ensure high‑quality work
Providing excellent client service via phone and in person, including greeting visitors and assisting with enquiries
Working collaboratively within a close‑knit bookkeeping team, offering support and cover when required
Assisting with general office tasks to help maintain a smooth working environment
Completing any CPD required by relevant professional bodiesGeneral Duties
Attending training and development activities agreed with the line manager
Undertaking additional reasonable tasks as requested
Adhering to all internal policies and procedures
Maintaining flexibility as duties evolve with organisational needsHybrid working may be available depending on experience and independence in the role.
Person Specification
Experience
Previous experience in a fast‑paced accountancy practice
Strong working knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks and Dext
Sound understanding of the double‑entry bookkeeping systemSkills
Confident using Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong time‑management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
Comfortable handling shifting priorities without sacrificing accuracy
Proactive in seeking information to ensure seamless delivery to clients
