Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the Commercial Analyst will be responsible for developing and analysis of financial models, identifying project risk impacting investment (from a technical, delivery and contractual perspective) and implementing financial risks management strategies (as applicable) to mitigate these risks in accordance with VF guidelines. The Commercial Analyst will work closely with the Account Directors and Commercial Managers to prepare and submit high quality bids and proposal, winning projects and provide ongoing support throughout contractual negotiation and close.
The Commercial Analystplays a critical role in enabling the business to win, negotiate and secure through internal governance large, long term contracts as Vattenfall moves to become the market leader in UK energy infrastructure, building on our existing extensive pan-European operations.
This exciting role comes at a time when the UK is supporting project teams across the commercial operation of the business.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
Typical work in this role will include a mix of the following:
* Undertaking commercial and investment analysis needed for project structuring and pricing to help secure new major infrastructure contracts from early negotiation to financial close
* Working with Account Directors and Commercial Managers to identify synergies in other projects and implement these at early bid stages to improve competitiveness and profitability
* Identify and establish appropriate mitigation strategies for key business and project risks from a financial perspective impacting competitiveness and profitability
* Post award, working in project teams, providing the quantitative analysis needed during negotiations and secure investment from funding committees
* Drafting financial documentation to accompany contracts such as (methodologies for tariff and connection charges);
* Support inorganic growth financial support and its integration to existing operational projects (this means allocation of profit, SPVs design and returns)
* Contributing to a centre of excellence for quantitative analysis and financial modelling, driving best practice and standards across the UK business.
* Distilling complex information into succinct clear summaries for decision making.
* Undertaking quality assurance reviews of quantitative work being done across the business.
* Support Business planning preparation, VHUK and wider financial planning for the business.
* Driving board processes with internal DD such as transactional and risks analysis reviews, quantifying risks and mitigations
Knowledge and Skills
To be successful, we believe that you have the following experience:
* Experience in the development of infrastructure, ideally in the energy sector.
* Competent in MS Excel for cashflow modelling, preferably with familiarity with using the FAST standard.
* Experience working in a project investment or transaction environment.
* Managing projects to strict and challenging deadlines.
* Team organisational skills.
* Working in the interfaces between technical, commercial and legal specialists.
* Experience working closely with engineering, accounting and finance professionals.
* Written communication and content presentation skills.
* Understanding of UK energy and property markets particularly focusing on the drivers for low carbon energy.
