The role
As a Technical Documentation Manager, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious defence programmes – the Type 31 frigate project. This is your opportunity to lead the development and delivery of technical documentation that supports the Royal Navy’s next generation of warships. Your work will directly contribute to national security and global humanitarian efforts, while advancing your career in a dynamic, purpose-driven environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead the end-to-end management of technical documentation for the Type 31 programme - driving quality, compliance and collaboration across teams while continuously improving processes and stakeholder engagement.
1. Lead the control, coordination and delivery of all technical documentation across the Type 31 programme.
2. Maintain and update the technical documentation management plan to ensure compliance and consistency.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, ILS and Project Management.
4. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure documentation meets operational and regulatory standards.
5. Drive continuous improvement in documentation processes and systems.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Technical Documentation Manager
6. Experience in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), particularly in technical documentation.
7. Familiarity with Integrated Electronic Technical Documentation/Manuals and SD Data Modules.
8. Working knowledge of Defence Standards such as 00-, JSP, and ASD-Series specifications.
9. Proven ability to work effectively in complex, multi-disciplinary teams.
10. Strong verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications for the Technical Documentation Manager
11. Degree or HNC in an engineering discipline (mechanical, marine, electrical/electronics, systems, or information systems) or equivalent relevant experience.
12. Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards Chartered status.
