Sanctions Associate (2–6 PQE)

A leading international law firm is seeking a talented mid-level Sanctions Associate (2–6 PQE) to join its growing London-based sanctions practice.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded and expanding team advising major multinational clients, financial institutions, insurers, commodities traders, shipowners, and corporates on complex and high-profile international sanctions matters.
The sanctions practice has experienced significant growth and is now seeking a dedicated associate to strengthen its mid-level bench and support increasing client demand across advisory, transactional, and contentious sanctions work.
The Team
The successful candidate will work on a broad range of UK, EU, US, and international sanctions matters, with a particular focus on financial sanctions and marine sanctions work.
Key areas of work will include:
* Advising clients on UK, EU, US (OFAC), and UN sanctions regimes
* Financial sanctions advisory work, including compliance, risk assessments, licensing, and transactional analysis
* Marine and shipping sanctions, including matters involving shipowners, charterers, insurers, commodities traders, and logistics providers
* Advising on sanctions issues relating to international trade, commodities, energy, and cross-border transactions
* Internal investigations, enforcement issues, and regulatory engagement
* Drafting sanctions-related contractual protections and compliance policies
* Supporting disputes and investigations with sanctions-related elements
* Advising on evolving geopolitical and regulatory developments impacting clients globally
The role offers significant client exposure and the opportunity to work closely with partners and counsel on strategic, market-leading mandates.
Candidate Requirements
Candidates should have:
* 2–6 years’ PQE gained at a leading international or specialist law firm
* Strong experience advising on UK/EU/US sanctions regimes
* Demonstrable expertise in financial sanctions advisory work
* Experience in marine, shipping, trade, or commodities sanctions is highly desirable
* Excellent technical, drafting, and analytical skills
* A commercial and solutions-focused approach
* Strong academic credentials and communication skills
