The role This position focuses on the design and development of world class gas sensors and instruments. The right candidate will take designs from concept through to manufacturing and finishing stage, whilst complying and passing all safety requirements too Reporting to the R & D director responsibilities will include: Design of gas detection sensors and instrumentation products throughout life cycle Compliance with ATEX/ UL intrinsic safety products and/or SIL function safety standards Support and enhancement of existing products, to meet new requirements and to eliminate malfunctions Incorporate new gas sensing technologies into production for new applications Work with state holders and suppliers to ensure best outcome for the product Electro- mechanical component, robust IP rated enclosure, pneumatic system and full product design and problem solving Working with suppliers and production to ensure that parts and components achieve form, fit and function Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications and documentation Conduct simulations and analysis to evaluate theoretical designs, validate design concept and optimise performance Perform prototyping, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical and electromechanical systems Design for compliance with industry standards and regulations Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback As part of the product design team, consider design failure modes and effects analysis, design for test, design for manufacture and design for Assembly Support ongoing production including jig and fixture design and manufacture T he Person Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant subject and significant hands-on experience in sensors and instruments is also highly desired Design of products complaint with Intrinsic safety (ATEX, IECEx) and CE mark Knowledge of hazardous area classifications, safety standards and familiarity with explosions proof and intrinsically safe design principles are also highly desirable A sound knowledge of in 3D CAD software, ideally Solidworks and PDMworks, to generate 3D design files and 2D drawing pack Experience within a range of manufacturing processes including injection moulding A good understanding and practice of tolerance analysis (GD&T) Use of simulation tools (ideally Comsol or FEA) to support product development Material selection knowledge (ATEX specific ideally) A n understanding and experience of following o f an NPD process Methodical, Logical and detail orientated whilst still getting things done Have a flexible, collaborative approach with good critical thinking skills and attention to detail Be motivated in mechanical design with the ability to contribute to the full system design An effective and confident communicator with a high level of rapport building skills both within internal departments and external customers Proficient in IT skills and MS office packages Possess high levels of organisation and prioritisation skills including version control This role is offered on a Full-time, permanent basis and the Working hours are 37.5 hours a week: Monday – Thursday 08:30 – 17:00 and Friday 08:30 – 15:45 (with 45 min unpaid lunch). The salary offered is negotiable, depending on experience and offers some excellent benefits as well as the opportunity to progress and grow within the business.
