Overview
Following an internal promotion, applications are now closed for the position of Clinical Nurse Manager at Swift Referrals – someone to lead our team with vision and compassion, and ensure the smooth and efficient running of our multidisciplinary referral hospital. Reporting into the Hospital Director, the Clinical Nurse Manager will lead a dedicated team of around 40 RVNs and 15 Animal Care Assistants, overseeing the direct line management of the three Clinical Team Leaders in Wards, Medicine and Surgery.
This role presents an opportunity to influence the strategic and clinical vision of the hospital, shape the team culture, and develop nurses and ACAs to fulfil their personal and clinical potential. Strong interpersonal skills will be used to build excellent working relationships with referral clinicians and the front of house team, ensuring clear communication and smooth patient transitions through the hospital.
Responsibilities
* Lead, support, and develop the nursing and ACA teams to deliver high-quality clinical and client care in a profitable and sustainable manner.
* Manage the clinical floor to maintain effective and efficient workflow, ensuring timely completion of procedures and fostering collaboration across services.
* Oversee team rotas, staffing levels, and workflow planning to balance clinical priorities with wellbeing and sustainability.
* Recruit RVNs and ACAs with support from the Talent Team, including interviewing, onboarding and induction of new hires.
* Conduct and review health and safety risk assessments, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.
* Act as a visible, approachable leader on the floor, providing clinical support where needed.
* Proactively and reactively solve problems to keep the hospital running smoothly.
* Collaborate with the senior leadership team to continually improve processes and patient care.
* Represent Swift Referrals within the wider organisation, shaping the future of referral nursing in the network.
Qualifications and experience
* Registered Veterinary Nurse with leadership experience, ideally in a referral setting.
* Experience in larger first opinion hospitals considered if strong clinical foundations and development toward referral standards are demonstrated.
* A clear vision for the nursing team and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient and client care in line with IVC Evidensia values.
Working pattern
This is a full-time position consisting of 36-40 hours per week, worked over 4 or 5 days at your preference. Flexibility is required to attend meetings outside regular shifts, and there will be crossover with the nursing team to ensure visibility and support. There are no planned weekend or OOH shifts with this position; however you will participate in the management on-call rota (~1 in 6 weekends).
