Residential Childcare Support Worker (Casual) role at Polaris Community. We currently have openings for experienced Residential Childcare Support Workers, and would also love to hear from those who are passionate about making a positive and lasting difference to young people, and who are willing to undertake the relevant training and qualifications needed.
Salary: £12.55 per hour
Location: Horsham, West Sussex

Apple Orchard has five homes in Surrey and West Sussex. Each home is set in a rural location and offers a comfortable homely environment for young males aged 12-18 years. We are looking for Residential Support Workers to join our team on a casual basis. This opportunity provides flexibility to work hours you can commit to with no contractual obligation.
Role purpose
To help young people develop insight into their experiences so they can move on from their past. We support them by providing clear and safe boundaries and achievable goals, including positive reinforcement strategies such as reward charts and free time. Central to our work is providing a high level of nurturing to meet the basic needs of the young person, within a warm and friendly home environment that emphasizes supportive relationships and positive attachments.
Duties And Responsibilities
* To ensure that a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, considering individual developmental needs and helping them reach their full potential
* To plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate learning and integration within the home
* Keep informed of legislation, guidelines, policies to ensure the Children’s Act, Children’s Homes Regulations and the national minimum standards are met; be aware of Ofsted guidance relevant to the home
* Observe and assess young people's progress and keep accurate records of achievements, behaviour and important events; maintain up-to-date life books for each young person under your key working responsibilities
* Work with local authorities/placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding
* Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers to support learning and development where appropriate
* Be flexible within the home’s working practices, including undertaking domestic tasks (meal preparation, cleaning, shopping) as needed
* Collaborate with the Manager and staff team to ensure the home’s philosophy is fulfilled
* Maintain clear, legible records regarding the young people; ensure entries are clear, non-stigmatising, and distinguish between fact, opinion and third-party information
Essential Skills
* Experience with teenage boys or challenging behaviour and a willingness to develop skills further
* Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle (due to rural location, public transport may not be viable)
* Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People’s Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent
* Willingness to engage young people in a wide range of activities and support their journey toward independence and adulthood
* Flexible with working hours; able to work a mixture of days, evenings and weekends; shift work with alternate weekends off
* Ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour, set firm boundaries, and provide care that meets individual needs
* Team player able to follow delegated tasks and handovers
* Ability to maintain policies and procedures and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
