ESC204 - Praxis III - Writing Instructor
Course description: Praxis III is the capstone course of the Engineering Science Foundation Design sequence and challenges students to apply the models of engineering design, communication, teamwork, and professionalism introduced and developed in Praxis I and II to the design and testing of a functioning product prototype. The course requires students to integrate the design, technical, and complementary knowledge gained across the Engineering Science Foundation in the context of a single, major, full-term design project.

Class schedule: Lectures Monday 12pm - 1pm, Wednesday 12pm - 1pm, Friday 12pm - 1pm; Tutorials Tuesday 12-2pm; 2-4pm, Wednesday 9-11am Practicals Thursday 1-3pm, Friday 9-11am;
Dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026
Hours: 43 Hours
Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates are: Writing Instructor 1 - $55.46/hr plus 4% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 1 Long Term - $59.62/hr plus 4% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 2 - $59.62/hr plus 6% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 2 Long Term - $61.05/hr plus 6% vacation pay; Writing Instructor 2 (priority) - $61.38/hr plus 6% vacation pay and Writing Instructor 2 (priority) Long Term- $62.82/hr plus 6% vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Education, Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong writing and oral communication skills, TESL certification or equivalent and a demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Flexible availability is a requirement for these positions. Experience teaching and assessing communication instruction in large scale design course.
Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above), and TESL or other training/certification in second-language instruction at the university level, and familiarity withengineering communication practices, and strong performance as an instructor in ESC101, ESC102, or ESC204. Flexible availability for studio and benchmarking meetings is also preferred.
Description Of Duties
* Assessment occurs in three periods: after February 17, March 03, and April 07.
* Assessment of written individual reflection assignments submitted by students at three points during the course, including constructive, actionable, written feedback to support active self-assessment and improved self-reflection.
* Participation in benchmarking and planning meetings related to grading individual reflection assignments.
* Attending course-specific trainings for assessment and feedback in the context of ESC204.
