Clinical Technologist - Healthcare Science Practitioner

Are you passionate about healthcare and technology? Do you hold technical skills, have an eye for accuracy and have an understanding of diagnostic medical imaging? If so, we invite you to join our dynamic team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) as a Clinical Technologist in Radiation Science. Main duties of the job

* Quality assure a range of x-ray imaging equipment.
* Work with team members to analyse quality assurance results and produce reports to users of ionising radiation.
* Contribute to the development of protocols to evaluate radiation imaging technologies.
* Manage the calibration service for the radiography quality assurance meters.
* Provide, with others, a staff radiation dose monitoring service.
* Carry out staff and environmental dose surveys.
* Contribute to the training of clinical technologists and new or less experienced employees in own work area.
* Assist radiography staff in quality assurance.
* Act as an operator under the definitions of the IR(ME)R17 regulations in accordance with Trust policies.
* Assist in the physics quality assurance service for artificial optical radiation equipment.

Person Specification


Knowledge and experience

* Practical experience of working in a scientific discipline.
* Practical experience in quality control measurements on radiation equipment.
* Knowledge of Medical Physics, with particular knowledge in health physics and medical imaging relevant to the job.
* Awareness of hazards posed by, and precautions needed with ionising radiation.
* Understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidance.
* Able to prioritise and manage own work.
* Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own area of competence.
* Clear and confident communication skills.
* Ability to produce concise and accurate written reports.
* Able to concentrate for prolonged periods.
* Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Able to maintain neat, accurate records.


Skills and Abilities

* Able to work as an effective member of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Able to use precision instruments for measurement of machine parameters.
* Able to use Excel and Word to set up documents and spreadsheets and extract information.
* Able to lift medium weights.
* Able to travel between hospital sites, either independently or with reasonable adjustments.
* Car driver with full UK driving licence.


Qualifications and Training

* BSc in Clinical Technology or BSc, BEng or equivalent in physics or a related discipline.
* Successful completion of a recognised training scheme for clinical technologists or equivalent experience of diagnostic radiology modalities.
* Eligibility for entry onto the Register of Clinical Technologists.
* Membership of the Register of Clinical Technologists.
