Youth Justice Worker (Norfolk Youth Justice Service) | 10513 | Secondment Opportunity / Temporary Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2028 | 37 hours per week | £34,434 to £36.363 per annum | Grade H | Norwich / Great Yarmouth

This is an exciting opportunity to join Norfolk Youth Justice Service. We have posts based in Norwich and Great Yarmouth until the 31st March 2028.


Responsibilities

* Engage, assess, and work directly and creatively with children aged 10-17 who are at risk of offending or have offended, safeguarding their welfare, protecting the public and helping restore the damage caused to victims.
* Manage a caseload of low to medium risk cases within the Out of Court Diversion team.
* Develop, contribute to, and participate in interventions to prevent offending and re‑offending by children.
* Plan and deliver interventions, public protection measures and manage safeguarding concerns.
* Conduct assessments of children and families using YJB‑approved tools and other relevant frameworks to identify risks, needs and strengths, informing statutory and voluntary interventions.
* Produce written and verbal reports based on assessments for a wide range of audiences.
* Understand relevant criminal justice and childcare legislation, restorative justice principles, child and adolescent development and transition impacts.
* Communicate effectively with service users, colleagues, and other professionals.
* Participate in statutory duties, multi‑agency meetings, and produce formal written reports.
* Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, court duty and intervention sessions.

* Strong work ethic, resilience, and ability to adapt to challenging situations.
* Creative with initiative to bring new ideas and fresh perspectives.
* Organised and able to prioritise work with the greatest impact.
* Child‑first approach, collaborative with children and their parents/carers.
* Knowledge of criminal justice and childcare legislation, and experience working with children with behavioural or emotional concerns.
* High organisational skills and ability to meet competing deadlines.


Working Conditions

These posts are locality based but most of the working week involves community visits or remote work. You must have a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle to meet the post requirements. You will be expected to work from the office at least two days a week, in addition to team days.
