Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on site per fortnight). We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about options.
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
What you’ll be doing:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress via agile tools.
5. Ensure delivery of the engineering plan on schedule.
6. Guide and instruct on engineering methods/processes for plan delivery.
7. Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, fostering team development and capabilities.
8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions based on known designs.
Your skills and experiences:
* Essential:
o Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems, meeting requirements such as functional, defence, and industrial standards.
o Experience managing non-functional requirements (e.g., EMC, shock) ensuring industrial compliance.
o Experience authoring/reviewing design documents like I/O schedules, functional specifications, interface control documents.
o Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
* Desirable:
o Understanding control system architecture and communication protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS).
o Experience with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety and supporting safety evidence.
o Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.
