Description Teacher – The Bridge Campus, The Harbour School KS3/KS4 Teacher for Short Stay School Full time, Permanent, MPS/UPS plus SEN allowance Are you passionate about helping young people find their way back into learning? Do you have the empathy, resilience and commitment to teach students who face barriers to mainstream education? At The Bridge Campus, our short stay provision supports students with a variety of challenges who need a different kind of school for a while - somewhere they can reset, rebuild and prepare for their next step. Some students don’t fit into the mainstream, and that’s okay! They need a different kind of school, and we need a different kind of person. Someone who understands that not every journey is the same, that the right kind of support can have a big impact (even in a short time), and that sometimes just getting through the door is a victory. This is no ordinary teaching job. This is a chance to change the direction of a child’s life. If you’re the kind of person who celebrates the small wins, stays calm in any situation, and believes in second (and third… and fourth) chances, we want to hear from you. What you’ll be doing: Planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to individual needs. Tracking progress, providing feedback, and celebrating every success. Creating a safe, positive classroom where students feel valued. Supporting wellbeing through positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed approaches. Working closely with colleagues, families, and external agencies to give students the best support. Contributing to curriculum development, enrichment, and whole-school initiatives. Who we’re looking for – you will: Have QTS (or equivalent) and KS3/KS4 teaching experience. Have a passion for supporting students who may have struggled in mainstream education. Assess progress with care – and celebrate even the smallest victories Be deeply committed to trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to behaviour and learning Be creative, flexible and emotionally resilient – able to think outside the box and adapt to the needs of every learner Be a team player who thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment, working closely with parents, carers, support staff, and external agencies About us: The Harbour School is a multi-site organisation, with campuses at Bay Campus (including Primary at The Bay), The Bridge Campus, The Lighthouse Campus, and the Vista Campus (including The Horizon Service), all based within the city of Portsmouth. We also have an Outreach Support Team and a Hospital tuition service at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. We support students from Year 5 to Year 11, including those with an EHCP for SEMH, students recovering from the trauma of permanent exclusion, those who unintentionally exclude themselves from education, and Students who cannot access school for medical reasons. As part of Southern Education Trust, The Harbour School’s vision is "Learning together in pursuit of happiness." We work hard to create a space where students learn together to become knowledgeable, self-aware, independent, and happy individuals who make a positive difference, wherever life takes them. Why join us? Small class sizes with excellent support staff to help you make a real impact and allow more time for meaningful teaching. The chance to make a huge difference in the lives of young people, one small victory at a time.
