Overview
Trainee CBT Therapist - Strides Eating Disorder Service. This is a 22-month fixed term training role leading to a permanent Psychological Therapist post if the postgraduate diploma programme is completed successfully. The post-holder will work within the service providing formal psychological interventions while undertaking a training programme. The role is full-time (5 days per week) with four days devoted to service delivery and one day for training.
About the Service
Support to Recovery in Disordered Eating Service (STRIDES) works with adults aged 16-35 with mild to moderate eating difficulties across Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Brent, Harrow and Hillingdon. Travel to a range of sites is required.
Job Responsibilities
* Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service
* Assess clients for suitability for CBT and decide on referral suitability
* Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients
* Educate and involve family members and others as appropriate, conveying CBT formulations in clear language
* Implement interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams
* Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors
* Adhere to an activity contract regarding client contacts and clinical sessions to minimise waiting times
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate
* Liaise with other clinicians involved in the patient’s care
* Maintain coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols
* Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients
* Communicate assessment, formulation and treatment plans in a skilled and sensitive manner and monitor progress
Training and Professional Development
* Receive regular clinical supervision from a senior clinician
* Receive supervision from educational providers for course work
* Attend and fulfil all training requirements of the post
* Apply learning from the training programme in practice
* Attend staff group meetings when possible
* Undertake mandatory training relevant to the post
Qualifications
* Essential: A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level in mental health or related fields (nursing, social work, counselling, occupational therapy, arts therapy, medicine, psychological therapy, psychology). Or evidence of meeting BABCP Knowledge, Skills and Attitude requirements
* Desirable: Experience in a service for severe mental health problems
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Essential: Demonstrable experience in mental health services; ability to meet service targets; ability to manage own caseload and time; strong written communication; ability to write clear reports
* Desirable: Experience in Eating Disorder Services; experience with targets demonstrating clinical outcomes
* Essential: Ability to evaluate training effects; computer literate; excellent verbal and written communication; risk assessment capability; ability to develop good therapeutic relationships
* Desirable: Knowledge of medications used in anxiety, depression and other mental health problems
