Catholic Charities is seeking its next Chief Financial Officer—a pivotal leadership role within one of Central Minnesota’s most respected nonprofit organizations. As a true strategic partner to Catholic Charities’ CEO and the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, the CFO is responsible for overseeing all facets of the organization’s financial functions and providing leadership to significantly impact the organization’s growth, profitability, capital structure, and strategic direction. The CFO will be an active participant in and driver of the organization’s overall strategy with responsibility for managing the accounting, audit and tax, finance, and purchasing functions. This role includes working closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization. She or he will lead all financial administration, budgeting, planning and analysis.
Partner closely with the CEO as a strategic business leader focused on long- term strategy and growth, costs, and capital structure for the organization.
Partner with the CEO on all operational and strategic issues and provide strategic recommendations including financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, ROI analysis and revenue/expense analysis.
Monitor and ensure investments are optimized and strategic project initiatives are supported at all levels of the organization.
Oversee long-term budgetary planning, including the strategic growth initiatives, related capital expenditures, and facilities management to ensure alignment with the strategic plan.
Research, develop and implement an optimal long-term debt strategy.
Advise the executive team on long-term growth trends and sustainable program opportunities based on research and analysis that lead community impact.
Participate in strategic planning as an integral member of the leadership team, providing consultative support to planning initiatives through financial management information analysis, reports and recommendations.
Lead new program evaluation processes from a financial and forecasting perspective.
Provide strategic oversight of the day-to-day management of the financial, purchasing, and risk management operations of the organization.
Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets to monitor progress; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
Manage the organization’s investment portfolio, working with the Finance Committee to develop and implement investment strategies.
Review, analyze, and negotiate contracts with a focus on identifying and mitigating potential risks to the organization.
Ensure that accurate, timely tax returns are filed and payments are made incompliance with all tax laws and regulations where applicable.
Establish best practices for financial and accounting areas of the organization.
Develop a detailed financial plan and multi-year forecast, including analyzing, identifying, promoting, and implementing plans, policies, and programs to increase revenue, lean out and accelerate working capital, conserve and maximize the impact of capital expenditures and manage cash flow.
Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial and operational metrics statements and reports.
Lead the procurement team to develop a supply chain and investment management strategy.
Advance the implementation of the new business systems to support anticipated business growth.
Oversee the audit activities, ensuring that timely financial and accounting information and audit reports are supplied to Catholic Charities leaders, the Board of Directors, financial institutions, and others, as appropriate.
Lead the Finance Department through organizational values to ensure performance expectations and measures are met.
Develop and manage direct staff, providing for the continued growth and development of all team members to ensure career progression and the achievement of short- and long-range goals of the organization.
Engage other members of the executive management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures all financial and administrative systems positively support Catholic Charities’ evolving strategy and operational capabilities.
Ensure that the finance staff maintains financial record systems and processes in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, ensures adequate internal controls, and monitors the use of all funds.
Develop operational metrics to deepen the analysis of business performance.
Candidates will possess an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA and/or MBA preferred.
A minimum of ten years of hands-on experience in a financial management capacity. Technology: ERP experience is a significant plus, along with experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Domo, Power BI, etc.
Candidate Profile: The CFO will have a proven track record of success serving as a proactive, strategic business partner and with experience within a senior leadership team. A broad-based business acumen and financial aptitude is needed with the ability to manage the financial and administrative responsibilities of the organization. Candidates must have outstanding management and financial skills and significant experience partnering with business leaders to achieve objectives. Must have exceptional financial expertise, business judgment, leadership skills, integrity, and the ability to establish immediate credibility at all levels, inside and outside of the organization.
