At Leonardo, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Systems Engineer within our Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. Operating across the UK, CS3 provides innovative support solutions to ensure the availability of frontline capabilities whenever required.
This role is part of the Through-Life Services (TLS) team within Team Tempest, working on next-generation combat aircraft at the forefront of technological innovation, reinforcing the UK's position as a global leader in combat air. We seek someone who excels in problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and developing value-driven solutions for customers and the business.
TLS encompasses all aspects necessary to maintain system effectiveness throughout their lifecycle, aiming to develop capable, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. This includes Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), solution management, continuous improvement, upgrades, spares, repairs, training, supportability, failure prediction, equipment health monitoring, support architecture, and knowledge management. Future solutions will heavily rely on information systems, digital analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including industry partners and the MoD, influencing and optimizing holistic solutions.
What You’ll Do as a Lead Systems Engineer:
1. Own the creation and delivery of technical solutions within defined work packages, ensuring stakeholder requirements are met.
2. Establish and develop stakeholder needs, prioritizing and trading off requirements to optimize capabilities.
3. Contribute to solution strategy, leveraging existing technologies and methodologies.
4. Design concepts and architecture for support solutions, incorporating input from design teams and subject matter experts.
5. Perform system functional analysis, modeling, and architecture refinement.
6. Define Use Cases and perform Functional Analysis to shape logical architecture.
7. Align architecture with other program elements through stakeholder collaboration.
8. Apply appropriate systems engineering tools and techniques, providing guidance to the team.
9. Address issues proactively, escalating risks and identifying opportunities for improvement.
10. Use Operational Analysis outputs to refine design and requirements.
11. Create reports and presentations for customers and partners.
12. Develop cross-cutting capabilities within the Systems Engineering team, especially in modeling and architecture.
13. Build relationships within and outside the organization, promoting best practices.
14. Mentor and develop other engineers in systems engineering principles.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
* Experience in leading technical solution development in multidisciplinary teams.
* Proficiency in capturing and analyzing stakeholder needs for service solutions.
* Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for architecture development.
* Skilled in generating Use Cases and conducting Functional Analysis.
* Understanding of the engineering lifecycle across domains.
* Ability to perform trade studies and balance competing needs.
* Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and influencing skills.
* Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
* Commitment to engineering best practices, including external sources like academia.
* Ability to explore problem domains without bias.
* Proven coaching and leadership abilities.
* Awareness of systems within broader enterprise contexts.
* Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
