Description
The Track Laborer position involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining railroad track infrastructure to ensure safety and efficiency. It is a manual labor role requiring proficiency in various skills, duties, and safety procedures, which will be provided during a training period.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Inspect, load, unload, and install track materials such as cross ties, switch ties, and ballast.
* Inspect and grind rails; install, maintain, and repair turnouts and crossings.
* Construct, surface, gauge, line, and shift track; inspect and maintain bridges, culverts, tunnels, and station facilities.
* Operate scales, fences, signs, and perform vegetation control.
* Clear debris, remove snow, and ensure track safety.
* Report accurately and timely, interpret safety and operational documents.
* Communicate professionally, understand track authority, and follow safety protocols.
* Respond to emergencies promptly and perform other assigned duties.
Education and Experience
* High school diploma or GED, or 3-6 months related experience, or equivalent.
* Must be 18 years or older.
Certificates and Licenses
* Valid driver's license with no restrictions.
* Ability to pass required safety and knowledge tests (Track Ground School, GCOR, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to follow instructions, perform heavy lifting, work outdoors, and adapt to a flexible schedule.
* Knowledge of roadway protection rules and railroad operations.
