At Portsmouth Water, our Assistant Quantity Surveyor plays a key role in supporting our Commercial Assurance team to deliver exceptional contract and cost management across our capital programmes. You’ll be instrumental in providing vital commercial support, keeping accurate records, assisting with reporting, and helping to manage contract administration, ensuring our projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest standards.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting project management teams to ensure projects are delivered according to specifications and budget, while adhering to key deadlines and maintaining quality standards that meet stakeholder expectations.
* Support contract administration, including; project set-up, payment processing and change management, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
* Assist in contract and commercial records management using CEMAR and IFS.
* Contribute to the preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, and reports.
* Assist in administering project approvals and governance processes.
* Assist in developing and maintaining management information dashboards and reports.
* Gather and analyse data on network, project, and cost performance.
* Support the preparation of reports for senior management and stakeholders.
* Support the maintenance of the contractor performance management framework and associated management information.
* Provide administrative and commercial support to the Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager.
* Assist in coordinating stakeholder training and engagement on commercial processes.
* Liaise with suppliers, project teams, and other internal stakeholders on contract-related inquiries, including site visits.
What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
* Experience or academic background in contract/commercial management or quantity surveying.
* Proficiency in analytical, numerical, and IT skills.
* Organisational and detail-oriented with strong record-keeping abilities.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience with NEC contracts (training provided).
* Knowledge of commercial systems (CEMAR, IFS) is desirable but not essential.
* Aspiration to pursue a professional commercial or surveying qualification.
* Experience in Asset Management or eagerness to pursue a qualification in this field.
* A good understanding of programme delivery and governance processes.
