The Histopathology Department, based at UHCW and SWFT sites, provides over 120 staff with dissection, microtomy, molecular and immunohistochemistry services. Our Histology service is modernising automation and offers exciting projects. The Section Manager (Senior BMS) team will lead the transformation and ensure safe, effective delivery as part of the departmental Quality Lead role.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate and maintain ISO15189 accreditation and compliance to HTA guidelines.
* Co‑ordinate quality assurance schemes and supervise compliance with departmental audit schedules, review findings and implement service changes and improvements.
* Manage the propagation and maintenance of all laboratory aspects of ISO standards, HTA regulations and other statutory regulations.
* Ensure quality assurance procedures are adhered to and all necessary internal records are maintained. Collate data for and lead departmental meetings and propose and implement change as appropriate, ensuring clear lines of communication at all times.
* Takes responsibility within the laboratory for achieving and maintaining all local and national performance targets. Manage KPIs including prioritising work to achieve turnaround times, managing staff attendance and attaining and sustaining PDR and mandatory training compliance.
* Oversee and develop the implementation of new techniques, equipment and working practices including supporting management of change processes.
Qualifications
* Completion of IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent is required and must be stated.
* Completion of a level 7 qualification (MSc. IBMS HSD or equivalent) is essential. Applications are also invited from candidates working towards this. Successful applicants will be appointed as a Trainee Section Manager and paid at Band 6 until completion of the qualification.
