As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will be the Trust’s specialist advisor on all fire safety matters, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice standards. You will provide guidance to the Board and Senior Management, develop training programmes, conduct risk assessments, maintain records, and support the creation of a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
* Provide the Trust Board and Senior Management with up-to-date information, guidance, and instruction on all current fire safety legislation, ensuring full legal compliance.
* Offer specialist advice regarding statutory fire safety in both existing and new buildings, incorporating HTM 05 (Firecode) requirements.
* Develop, implement, and manage an effective fire prevention and fire precautions training programme for all Trust staff.
* Produce, review, and implement the Trust Fire Safety Management Policy, ensuring it remains compliant and effective.
* Conduct regular fire risk assessments, developing and monitoring action plans to address any identified risks.
* Maintain accurate records of all fire incidents and fire-related matters, producing regular reports for governance meetings.
* Provide clear and authoritative advice at all levels, including interpretation of complex construction and engineering drawings.
* Lead fire safety audits and contribute to strategic safety planning.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree (or level 6) qualification in fire safety or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Member of a recognised fire safety institution (e.g., Institute of Fire Engineers, Institute of Fire Prevention Officers, IHEEM).
* Certificate in Training Practice or extensive experience in preparing and delivering training.
* Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) and significant experience in fire safety.
* Practical experience conducting fire risk assessments and developing action plans.
* Comprehensive knowledge of current fire safety legislation, particularly within a healthcare environment.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills with the ability to manage complex information and support decision-making.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent safety schemes.
* General computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
* NEBOSH General Certificate (fire), fire engineering, or similar advanced qualifications.
* Understanding of Health Technical Memoranda and Firecode application.
* Registered fire risk assessor with a recognised accreditation body.
* Experience in NHS or healthcare settings, including fire modelling techniques.
* Knowledge of risk management and regulatory frameworks such as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Building Regulations.
