Maintenance Craftsperson (Mechanical)

An opportunityhas arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated maintenancecraftsperson (Mechanical) to join ateam of engineering craftsperson responsible for the maintenance and repair ofmechanical plant and equipment at buildings maintained by CHoICE FacilitiesServices. The role will require the post holder to undertake the role ofCompetent Person (CP) as defined within Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00for multiple engineer services and support CHoICE to meet its statutory,mandatory and best practice commitments to its existing partners.
As part of the role, the post holder will be required to be flexible andhave a wide ranging knowledge of mechanical systems to ensure maintenance,repair and installation activities can be completed in the most efficient andeffective manner whilst providing the best possible services. As part of ahighly diverse role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity tooperate and maintain large scale mechanical system which includes: AHUs, LTHWsystems, steam plant, pressure systems, medical gas system, refrigeration plantand BMS control.
The role willalso require the participation in the current CFS rolling 365 day shiftpattern/system. The role will also require participation within the currenton-call rota and undertake overtime when the service needs dictate for whichappropriate payments will be made.
Main duties of the job
All applicantsmust have a positive, friendly and co-operative manner whilst being prepared tobe flexible to meet the service needs of the Trust. The role will require theapplicant to use their own initiative when undertaking a range of problemsolving scenarios to allow for a satisfactory outcome whilst adapting to thechanging demands of the role. Furthermore, the post holder will be required toprovide technical advice, guidance and where necessary supervision to other CFSstaff, contractors and Trust colleagues alike.
Successfulapplicants will need to have a knowledge of electrical systems with a detailedknowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems typically found within an NHSTrust. Completion of a City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in mechanical engineeringor equivalent is essential as well as the completion of a formally recognised,relevant and accredited apprenticeship.

The base salary is £33,127 £40,327.However, as the role will require the participation within an on call rota,shift rota and require the completion of overtime (call outs / planned /Emergency) additional monetary rewards will be generated as part of the role.

Job responsibilities
To undertake actual maintenance andinstallation work/activities where appropriate across the whole range ofengineering services managed/maintained by CFS. The role will require theundertaking of surveys, inspections, fault finding, servicing and rectificationof engineering system faults whilst also providing technical advice, guidanceand where appropriate supervision to other CFS staff, contractors and Trustcolleagues alike.
The post holder will also be requiredto participate in the current CFS shift pattern/system, current on-call rotaand undertake overtime when the service needs dictate for which appropriatepayments will be made.

Person Specification
Physical skills
* Is able to travel and work at all Trust sites
* Is able to have the ability to undertake moderate physical activities for long periods throughout a typical working day
* Is able to complete tasks which require short intensive bursts of effort before returning to moderate physical
* Undertake regular moving and handling activities
* Requirement for highly developed physical dexterity, for hand and eye co-ordination and manipulation of fine tools
Qualifications
* Basic numeracy & literacy skills to level 1 or equivalent
* Basic IT Skills
* BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in suitable engineering related discipline
* Completion of recognised and accredited apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline
* Completion of specialist engineering related training via formulised training or suitable experience.
* City & Guilds Quarterly testing of large porous load sterilisers,
* City & Guilds Quarterly Testing of Washers Disinfectors,
* HVAC Competent Person Certificate,
Experience
* Knowledge and experience of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems typically found within a large NHS Acute Trust
* Detailed knowledge and experience of mechanical system requirements and regulations typically found within large NHS Acute Trust acquired through qualifications and relevant experience
* Complex fault diagnosis required, interpreting technical issues and formulating technical solutions to improve performance and maintain the service
* Have suitable and sufficient experience as a competent person to a level able to accept a permit to work from an authorised person
* Experience of working within an NHS Hospital Environment
* Experience of operating Building Management Systems (BMS)
Skills and Knowledge
* Able to use his/her own initiative when undertaking a range of problem solving scenarios to allow for a satisfactory completion.
