Surgical Pre-admission Assessment is a great way to develop your nursing career.
The role involves administrative responsibilities in the pre-operative assessment department, where we screen and assess a diverse group of patients undergoing a wide range of elective surgical and orthopaedic procedures. The role requires a structured approach and the ability to multitask accurately.
It is expected that the candidate will be proficient in audio touch typing and be efficient and organized in their approach. The candidate must have high-level communication skills to facilitate interaction with the multidisciplinary team.

Bournemouth Hospital is part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust since our merger with Poole Hospital. It is an exciting time for our department as we are rolling out our digital pre-assessment service, which aims to improve patient care.

Responsibilities include welcoming patients, distributing relevant documentation, answering phone queries, preparing notes for clinics, organizing and booking patients into the Cardiopulmonary exercise test clinic run by anaesthetists, completing audio typing from anaesthetists, tracking notes, and booking anaesthetic notes clinics.

UHD is investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed following the merger and the New Hospital Programme. Some services may move sites during this period, either temporarily or long-term. The recruiting managers will be happy to answer any questions about this during the interview.
There is a planned move for this service anticipated during winter 2025, when this role and base of work will relocate to Poole site. Upon relocation, excess mileage allowance/reimbursement will not apply, and travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be considered a commute. Other changes will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
