Job overview
The Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service is a collaborative service working together with VCSE partners and offers an all age all need service. The service triages mental health crisis calls and referrals (including warm transfers from EMAS,, and police), providing tele-coaching psychologically informed interventions, support, guidance and signposting.
In April 4, NHS press 2 for Mental Health was added into the service provision, resulting in all calls made to requiring a MH response, being directed to the service.
In October 4, DHcFT went into partnership EMAS to deliver their contract of a Mental Health Response Vehicle (MHRV). The MHRV is crewed with an EMAS paramedic and mental health clinician from the helpline and is predominantly dispatched via the Emergency Operations Centre and Mental Health Clinical Assessment Team (CAT) to mental health incidents between 4pm – am, seven days a week.

As a member of The Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service team, you will adopt the philosophy of the service and provide flexible, responsive, proactive and interactive assessmentandmanagementtoindividualsexperiencingamentalhealthcrisis,early signsofrelapseornewacutephasementalillness.Allinterventionsandmanagement plans will maintain the safety and wellbeing and empower the service user and their carers/family during thisperiod.
The post holder will be able to sustain a respectful, consistent and reliable therapeutic relationship with service users that enhances their ability to build social networks and work in partnership with; Mental Health Teams, Support Networks, Primary Health Care Teams and other Statutory, Voluntary and Independent agencies, ensuring social inclusion for service users.

Service Delivery
14. Provide clinical oversight and decision making to the support line ensuring a comprehensivetriageassessmentprocessandonwardsupportandfacilitation to wider services and needs basedinterventions.
15. Support and oversee the formulation and implementation of appropriate care plans/packagesofcarefortheindividualpriortotheirdischargetoensurethat their mental health care is seamless throughout the carepathway.

Key duties and speciality specific requirements
20. Work within the urgent care pathway to support the running and operation of the Mental Health helpline and supportservice.
21. Support the answering of calls as well as the escalation of calls from all sources.
22. High-level assessment and formulation skills are paramount to respondto individuals.
23. Undertaking emergency and urgent assessments alongside police, EMAS and NHS. MHRV operates between the hours of 4pm and midnight and requires a clinician and EMAS paramedic to respond to mental health related incidents.
24. Knowledge and skills in the area of triage and the mental health crisiscare with specific regard to the interface between all emergency and out of hour’s services.
25. To provide clinical oversight and advice to mental health helpline operators working on thehelpline.
26. To oversee the specialised risk and mental health assessments of individuals engaged with the acute care pathway to inform recommendations for their care/treatment.
27. Following triage/ assessment make direct referrals to other specialistservices/ partner agencies if required; ensuring appropriate care pathways are in place to meet the needs of thepatient.
28. Ensure that all assessments take into account appropriate risk factors andthat an appropriate safety plan is developed with supervision.
29. To provide an appropriate support for relatives, friends and carers or those people who come into contact with the Mental Health Helpline and Support Service.
30. Offer support, guidance and advice to emergency services and out of hours, inclusive of any otherpartners.
31. To use the clinical information system in order to enter clinical data in conjunction with the team’s qualitystandards.
32. To maintain protocols for effective communication between both local mental health services, 3rd sector partners and other interestedorganisations.
33. Promote and develop effective working relationships with all colleagues and keyagencies.
34. Improve the experience of patients with mental health illnesses who receive care in the acute carepathway.
35. Provide input to the multi-disciplinary team members regarding assessment, intervention, management and safety planning.
36. Contributetosupport,trainingandskilldevelopmentforindividualsandgroups in mental healthawareness.
37. To assist the operational and clinical lead with the day-to-day management of junior colleagues regarding clinical supervision, andsupport.
38. To work as a key lead member of the Mental Health Helpline and Support Service,with the ability of offering a range of interventions for individuals with a wide range of mental health difficulties, in line with the service operationalpolicy.
39. To offer education to individuals in order to improve their knowledge and skills of mental health and reduce the stigma of mentalhealth.
40. With the support of the clinical lead, to deputise in their absence, providing representation within relevantmeetings.
CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL ISSUES
