About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK and yet it is incredibly well connected– only an hour from London on the train. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

We are looking for motivated, ambitious and inspiring people to join us on our journey. You will be entitled to a range of different benefits to make sure you are happy both at work and at home.

About the role

The team offers a supportive long standing management group who are continually making a difference to the vulnerable group of the young people we support. The team is led by our new HOS, and we are working collaboratively across the organisation to champion the young people we support within a social work team who places highly the importance of each team member and manager. As an assistant team manager, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to shape futures of young people and of staff.

The team provides a wide range of supportive and statutory social work interventions. This includes casework that involves Looked After Children, Child Protection Planning and Children in Need. You will work closely and collaboratively with the Team manager to ensure that overall supervision, support and practice of staff meets reflectively and safely meets the statutory requirements of the service.

About you

You will have a passion to work in a continually developing team. Have an ability to build effective professional relationships, be empathic and work in partnership with families and professionals, support staff and bring out their very best enabling them to reflectively and safely support the complex young people within the team.

What our newest family worker says about the team:

“I joined the Children with Disabilities team in September 2025, having previously worked as an Assistant Educational Psychologist for a number of years across other local authorities. My experience to date had been centred around supporting children, young people, and their families within education settings, and I am looking forward to broadening my experience of supporting families at home and within the community.

Starting any new role in a new team can be scary but the team were so welcoming and supportive; they really put me at ease, and I quickly realised I had nothing to be nervous about. There’s lots to learn and my colleagues have been fantastic at showing me step by step and reassuring me that no question is a silly one! I’m really looking forward to getting into the role more and supporting the children, young people, and families.”
