Overview
We are seeking a motivated Manufacturing Team Leader to oversee and optimise production operations within the FMCG industry. This role, based in Leigh, requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in engineering and manufacturing processes.
A large food manufacturing facility located in Leigh produces a wide range of globally distributed products, including sauces, spices, and ready meals. The site operates around the clock, employing hundreds of staff and contributing to the international supply chain of well-known culinary brands. The facility supports domestic and export markets with a focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation while fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership for HSE and Food Safety within the RTE Department and positively influence the progression of a behavioural safety and food safety culture at Leigh. Ensure that the team and department remain audit ready for internal and external audits (e.g., SML, ERM, BRC, Tesco and other customers). Support the completion of gap analyses against required standards and ensure corrective actions are in place.
* Proactively raise the bar of operational KPIs by developing and delivering all operational KPIs set out in Annual Objectives, including H&S, GMP, OEE, PVA (plan vs actual), Yield, Usage variance, PRN, labour variance and training measures. Optimise non-productive time (NPT) to maximise labour efficiency and training. In collaboration with the manager, plan for future business growth and ensure the labour model is sufficient to meet upcoming requirements, implementing changes as needed. Ensure deviations from performance targets are understood and corrective actions are taken.
* As a leader, champion and drive the operational excellence culture of the site and programme, ensuring the team uses the Daily Team Review and adopts tools, methodologies and behaviours that drive performance improvements and root-cause analysis.
* Develop a motivated, connected high-performing team by identifying potential and supporting the development of team leaders and operators, and deliver a functional engagement plan to create a true sense of belonging.
* Ensure the highest standards of housekeeping, hygiene and manufacturing practices (GMP) are achieved and maintained in line with BRC and customer requirements. Work with the Hygiene Team to plan work during non-productive time to uphold hygiene standards with a focus on asset care and food safety.
* Manage all aspects of Team recruitment through induction and Individual Learning Plans. Manage underperformance and invoke disciplinary procedures up to and including Summary Dismissal where necessary.
* Build strong partnerships with key functions such as Planning, Engineering, Technical, Finance and Supply Chain, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to bring best practice into the function.
Profile / Qualifications
* Proven experience in the FMCG industry or a similar manufacturing environment.
* Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and driving continuous improvement (e.g., OEE, health and safety improvements).
* Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to influence from shop floor to leadership levels.

* Food Safety Certification
* Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
* Effective communication and organisational skills
