Role: Practical Instructor – Construction or Building Services Engineering
Location: Tresham College – Corby and/or Wellingborough Campuses
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £26,780 and £31,415 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week

About The Role
We are currently seeking a Practical Instructor in Construction or Building Services Engineering to join our Construction and Building Services department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Practical, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
* Practical Instruction & Assessment – Deliver hands-on skills training and assess learners’ practical competence across a range of vocational courses, providing timely and constructive feedback.
* Resource & Workshop Management – Maintain and prepare practical teaching areas, manage inventory, and ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available and in good condition.
* Health & Safety Oversight – Take responsibility for health and safety in all practical areas, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with College policies and regulations.
* Curriculum & Technical Support – Support the development of teaching schemes and practical learning materials, and provide technical assistance in both workshop and classroom settings.
* Collaboration & Engagement – Liaise with industry contacts, participate in marketing and recruitment events, and contribute to team meetings and College-wide initiatives.
About You
* Qualifications & Industry Experience – Holds a Level 2 qualification in a construction trade and has recent, successful hands-on experience in the sector; willing to work toward teaching qualifications.
* Health, Safety & Legislation Knowledge – Demonstrates strong awareness of UK construction legislation, safe working practices, and consistently upholds high standards of housekeeping and health and safety.
* Teaching & Learner Support Skills – Capable of demonstrating tasks to individuals and small groups, supporting a high-quality learning environment, and promoting equality and diversity.
* Organisation & Communication – Manages workload independently, maintains accurate records, and communicates effectively in person, in writing, and over the phone.
* Professionalism & Flexibility – Upholds safeguarding responsibilities, adapts to varied work locations and schedules, and contributes positively to team culture and the College’s professional reputation.
