Job overview
This post is accountable to the Head of Service and General Manager and has professional line management accountability to Nurse Consultant.
The post holder will have line management responsibility for all designated staff at Chalkhill and for the allocated service budget.
The post holds a duty to act in response to established national standards and protocols regarding the safe delivery of care (e.g. infection control; least restrictive practice) are implemented and maintained and to alert the Executive Director of nursing to any shortfall or areas of risk.
Main duties of the job
The Modern Matron leads the 12 Chalkhill Adolescent Mental Health Unit to:
• Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical settings and related forums, to patients, carers and staff, demonstrating clear and effective clinical leadership and developing clinical practice.
• Ensure that the highest standards of care are aspired to and achieved within the resources available.
• Deliver effective governance, achieve performance targets, use information and data effectively to improve quality and minimise risk.
• To work alongside the provider collaborative to develop, support and manage any new initiatives in terms of alternative provisions to hospital admission

• Making sure patients receive high quality care that includes positive inpatient and day patient experience, coordinated care and smooth transitions, privacy and dignity, nutritional, spiritual and cultural needs are met.
• Ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to patient need
• Empowering nurses and other clinical staff to take on a wider range of clinical tasks
• Ensuring that clinical environments are maintained at a high level of cleanliness.
• Preventing hospital-acquired infection
• Facilitating the early resolution of patient problems and complaints to reduce the need for escalation and improving the experience of patients.

Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
* Post qualification study to Master's level (or equivalent) including ACP / those currently studying at Masters level or are willing to study at Masters level.
* Completion of Mentorship Course/
* Meet NMC requirement for maintenance of registration
Knowledge/Experience
* Extensive experience as Ward Manager, team leader or equivalent
* Extensive previous experience in CAMHS / crisis acute setting
* Demonstration of personal development
* Experience working with people with serious mental health problems
* Demonstrable working knowledge of Health and Social Care governance
Qualifications
