Job Description Contentious Probate Litigator Location : Darlington Salary : £45,000 - £65,000 (dependent on experience) About the Opportunity Join a well-established legal practice in Darlington as a Contentious Probate Litigator, where you'll handle a challenging and diverse caseload of disputed estate and inheritance matters. The Role You'll be managing a varied caseload of contentious probate matters, representing clients in complex estate disputes and inheritance claims. Working with specialist counsel and handling sensitive family matters, you'll have the opportunity to develop expertise in this specialist area while making a real difference to clients during difficult times. Key Responsibilities: Handle a diverse caseload of contentious probate and estate disputes from inception to resolution Manage inheritance claims including 1975 Act claims and proprietary estoppel cases Conduct disputes involving validity of wills, lack of testamentary capacity, and undue influence Handle executor and trustee disputes and removal applications Draft complex legal documents including Particulars of Claim and witness statements Negotiate settlements and represent clients at court hearings and mediations Provide strategic legal advice on prospects of success and case management Instruct and liaise with specialist counsel and expert witnesses Conduct client meetings with sensitivity and professionalism during emotional circumstances Manage case progression through CPR and specialist probate procedures What We're Looking For Qualified Solicitor with contentious probate experience (3 years PQE preferred) Strong knowledge of probate law, succession, and estate administration Experience handling inheritance disputes and will challenges Excellent case management and analytical skills Strong negotiation and advocacy abilities Sensitive approach when dealing with bereaved families and emotional situations Commercial awareness and understanding of costs implications Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage a demanding and emotionally challenging caseload Interest in developing expertise in this specialist area What We Offer Competitive salary: £45,000 - £65,000 (dependent on experience) Opportunity to handle complex and high-value contentious probate cases Professional development and specialist training opportunities Supportive team environment with access to experienced practitioners Career progression prospects within an established department Comprehensive benefits package Flexible working arrangements where appropriate Access to leading specialist counsel and expert witnesses Opportunity to develop expertise in a niche and growing area of law Continuing professional development support About our Client This firm is a well-established legal practice with a strong reputation for delivering exceptional contentious probate services.
