Why work for us?
Patients are at the centre of everything we do at NHS Borders, ensuring they are safe and cared for efficiently by qualified staff. We are a dynamic team with clinical and leadership expertise, promoting an open and honest culture and nurturing future NHS stars.
Borders General Hospital is a modern 288-bed district general hospital serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh. The Borders Railway provides train services to Edinburgh every thirty minutes (about 50 minutes journey). A relocation package and assistance, up to Inland Revenue limits, with temporary accommodation options, are available for successful candidates.
All new consultants are welcome to join our development programme, which supports leadership and management skills development, with coaching and mentoring opportunities. An experienced BGH consultant will be assigned as a buddy during your initial weeks.
The Roles
You will join our team of Consultant Cardiologists, Specialist Nurses, and Physiological Measurement Technicians to provide cardiac care for the Borders population. Responsibilities include inpatient cardiology care within the Medical Unit, outpatient services, and management of a 12-bed general medicine ward functioning as a high dependency/coronary care unit with monitored and telemetry beds.
Candidates must hold MRCP or equivalent, be registered with the General Medical Council with a license to practice, and be on the Specialist Register for Cardiology or Cardiovascular Medicine, or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT or equivalent.
