Responsibilities
* Machine Operation: Set up, program, and operate CNC turning machines to produce parts to precise specifications.
* Programming: Interpret technical drawings and create or modify CNC programs using Fanuc and/or CAM software.
* Tooling: Select, install, and maintain cutting tools, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
* Quality Control: Inspect finished components using precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, CMM) to ensure compliance with tolerances and quality standards.
* Maintenance: Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot minor issues to ensure continuous operation.
* Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production outputs, tool changes, and machine maintenance.
* Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with the production team to identify opportunities for process optimization and waste reduction.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Proven experience as a CNC Turner or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
* Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
* Strong knowledge of CNC programming (e.g., G-code, Fanuc, Siemens, or Mazak controls).
* Familiarity with precision measuring tools and quality control processes.
* Ability to set up and operate CNC lathes and turning centres.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
* Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
* Basic understanding of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment.
Desirable Qualifications
* Formal qualification in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or a related field or apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
* CNC Milling experience
* Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360).
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
* Ability to train or mentor junior team members.
* Robot Loading programming
Experience
* Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience as a CNC Turner in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Experience working with a variety of materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless, plastics).
* Familiarity with multi-axis CNC machines is an advantage.
Working Conditions
* Environment: Factory/manufacturing workshop with exposure to machinery, noise, and metalworking fluids.
* Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods, lifting moderate weights (up to 20kg), and working with precision tools.
* Working Hours: Mon to Thur 7.30 am to 4.30 pm, Fri to 12.30, or Flexible Hours
* PPE: Safety boots, eye protection, and other PPE as required.
Salary and Benefits
* Salary: Salary Guide Range £28,000 to £46,000, dependent on experience.
