The Sustainability Manager role
To manage the delivery of the Sir Robert McAlpine sustainability strategy, client requirements, and environmental compliance on a large project in South Wales.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Sustainability and construction project teams, bringing experience in construction environmental management and delivering projects aligned with our sustainability focus areas: Carbon, Resource Efficiency, Ethical Procurement, and Social Value.
Key Responsibilities
1. Implementing our EMS on the project from pre-construction with support from the Head of Sustainability.
2. Ensuring procurement documentation reflects sustainability requirements.
3. Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and best practices through site inspections and audits.
4. Managing project efforts to reduce carbon emissions and waste, and ensuring ethical procurement.
5. Understanding and delivering client sustainability requirements, including environmental assessments like BREEAM.
6. Reporting project performance against company and client standards.
7. Reviewing performance and implementing improvements.
8. Communicating strategy aims and achievements to staff.
9. Sharing best practices across the business.
10. Providing environmental management and sustainability training to staff and supply chain.
Your Profile
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Member of a relevant professional body (IEMA / CIOB).
* Experience supporting complex construction or civil engineering projects environmentally.
* Strong communication and influencing skills.
* Proactive learner and self-developer.
* Ability to manage sustainability across multiple projects.
* Experience in construction sustainability/environmental roles.
* Knowledge of environmental assessment methods (BREEAM, LEED, HQM).
* Experience reviewing and advising on sustainability performance and assessments.
* Managing sustainability requirements from preconstruction to completion.
