This post is within the departments Mental Health Team. The primary role will be to assess new referrals into the Team and to carry a caseload. There will be an emphasis on assessing new referrals into the Team from the Access Team to ascertain if a person would be best supported by the Mental Health Team. To help us recruit social workers who are committed to working in Middlesbrough we are currently offering a 10% supplement to social work salaries. This additional 10% will be reviewed at the end of March 2026. This will involve assessing the individual, liaising with carers and families, speaking to other professionals e.g. GP etc and to provide any support identified, following eligibility criteria guidelines under the Care Act. You will support adults to have a good assessment, clearly identifying needs whilst considering the context that the adult lives in and listening to their voice. You will then plan to help them meet their needs by looking at informal and community based support in addition to providing statutory services to meet their needs. You will also work with adults to safeguard them against abuse and neglect. In addition to the above the post holder may also work as an Approved Mental Health Professional (if qualified to do so) and to partake in duty work. For non AMHP’s there will be an expectation that the successful candidate will participate on the “back up” rota, supporting AMHP’s and be willing to undertake AMHP training depending on experience.
