The Project Engineer will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of sonic drilling projects, working closely with General Manager, Contracts Manager, drilling supervisors, drilling crews, clients, and subcontractors. The role combines largely office-based duties with regular site involvement to ensure projects are delivered safely and efficiently as well as fulfilling the requirements of field staff to conduct their duties. The role will be offered with progression for the right candidate to grow into an operations manager position.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery & Coordination
* Assist with planning, programming, and execution of sonic drilling projects
* Review scopes of work, specifications, drawings, risk assessments and method statements
* Coordinate with site teams to support day-to-day drilling operations
* Assist with mobilisation and demobilisation of drilling rigs and associated plant ensuring hired in plant is tracked and delivered as required. Assist with travel and accommodation requirements for field staff.
* Support Management with progress tracking and program updates
Technical Support
* Provide support relating to sonic drilling methods, borehole design, sampling techniques, and tooling selection
* Review and compile borehole logs, daily drilling records, and site data
* Support resolution of technical or operational issues encountered on site
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
* Promote and support compliance with company HSEQ policies and procedures
* Assist with preparation and implementation of RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements)
* Support site inductions, toolbox talks, and pre-start briefings
* Ensure works are carried out in accordance with client requirements, and QEHS Management systems
Commercial & Administration
* Assist with cost control, tracking labour, plant, and consumables
* Support preparation of variations and change control where required
* Maintain accurate project documentation, including QA/QC records
* Assist with project close-out documentation and reporting
Client Communication
* Communicate with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders as required
* Attend site, Pre-Start and progress meetings when necessary
* Support delivery of projects to client satisfaction
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (BEng/BSc or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline preferred however on-site experience in same fields accepted
* Experience within drilling, site investigation, geotechnical, environmental & mining.
* Knowledge of sonic and rotary drilling techniques, tooling and associated testing.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and ground investigation reports
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Requirements
* Demonstrates a practical, problem-solving approach with strong attention to detail.
* Able to work effectively both on site and in an office environment.
* Hold a valid UK driving licence or be able to travel independently for work purposes
* Willingness to travel occasionally and work away from home as required.
