Job Title: Works Manager
Job Type: Permanent | Start Date: ASAP | Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 | Location: Workington | Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Responsibilities
* Supervise and carry overall responsibility for the delivery and performance of a Major Project Site Team, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
* Work with the Project Team to maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental care, providing necessary information to meet statutory and legal requirements.
* Assist the Project Manager in delivering changes to the works directed by the client and manage contract matters.
* Direct, coach, and support site teams—including subcontractors—to meet contractual obligations and achieve production targets.
* Collaborate with the Site Management Team in producing work programmes and method statements.
* Lead regular site inspections with appropriate management, ensuring construction compliance with Codes of Practice, method statements, and risk assessments; provide reports to Senior Management and monitor action implementation.
* Ensure all site employees are briefed on safe systems of work, including Toolbox talks, Task Briefings, and Method Statements.
* Collaborate with the Project Manager and HSQE Team to develop and implement the Project IMS Plan.
* Ensure Health & Safety plans are in place, regularly monitor and report on Health & Safety performance and risks.
* Manage the close‑out of any Close Calls or unsafe acts/conditions and lead the investigation of accidents or incidents.
* Work collaboratively with the project team during regular project meetings and support the maintenance, audit, and update of management plans.
* Utilise the document control system and contribute to learning‑from‑experience meetings.
* Accurately monitor, document, and report on the progress of work in accordance with company procedures.
* Assist the Engineering Manager in compiling handover documentation.
Experience and Skills
* Commercial Management experience.
* Ability to manage, order, and coordinate the delivery, storage and maintenance of all materials, plant and equipment on site.
* Contract Management skills, including assisting the Project Manager with client‑directed changes.
* Project Management skills, including production of work programmes and method statements.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.
