Overview
The Support Worker plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and assistance to individuals in various settings, including nursing homes, care homes, and assisted living facilities. This position is essential for ensuring the well-being and comfort of clients, particularly those with specific needs such as Alzheimer's and dementia care. Support Workers are responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while fostering a supportive environment that promotes independence and dignity.
Duties
* Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
* Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for clients.
* Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring adherence to prescribed routines.
* Monitor and document changes in client behaviour or health status, reporting any concerns to appropriate healthcare professionals.
* Engage in behaviour management strategies to assist clients with challenging behaviours.
* Support clients with mobility issues, including heavy lifting when necessary, while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
* Facilitate social interaction and participation in activities that promote mental stimulation and physical well-being.
* Drive clients to appointments or social engagements as required.
Skills
* Proficiency in first aid and basic life support techniques.
* Experience in nursing homes or care home settings is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of Alzheimer's and dementia care practices.
* Familiarity with senior care principles and patient care methodologies.
* Understanding of medication administration protocols and medical terminology.
* Experience in home care or hospice care environments is beneficial.
* Strong caregiving skills with the ability to manage case plans effectively.
* Competence in meal preparation tailored to client dietary needs.
* Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting clients with mobility challenges.
