The University has received funding for one of three Hubs in Telecommunications, named 'Platform Driving the Ultimate Connectivity' (TITAN). The TITAN consortium comprises 16 UK universities, each with distinct domain expertise in telecommunications. The University of Cambridge, through its LiFi Research and Development Centre (LRDC), is leading TITAN. The aim of this Hub is to lay the foundations for the future 'network of networks' and to translate this research into emerging global standards, such as 6th generation (6G) wireless networks. Additionally, the University is involved in the second Telecoms Hub, 'All-Spectrum Connectivity' (HASC), which is led by the University of Oxford, along with several other publicly funded projects aligned with TITAN.
The LRDC currently leads or is involved in £35M of major and minor grants, including but not limited to the two above. Another major grant includes the project REASON funded by the UK's Department of Science, Innovation, and Technology as part of the Future Open Networks Research Challenge, and led by the University of Bristol.
Based at the Electrical Engineering Division in West Cambridge, you will manage the administration of the above to plan and ensure the delivery of day-to-day financial, IT, commercial, operational and logistical elements as well as ensuring that all statutory reporting requirements are met. Supported by a Research Coordinator, you will also be expected to liaise and coordinate with the administrative staff in the Division and other academic or industrial partner institutions. This will involve engaging and influencing senior decision-makers across business and academia, to understand needs and priorities, to know what equates to excellence, and to lead the programme team to deliver this. By leading the administrative decision‑making and working together with industry partners, other Centres and groups, you will effectively coordinate a range of specialist services to support research and teaching activities within the Division.
The successful candidate will ideally hold a PhD degree in management and administration, engineering, science or relevant discipline and post graduate experience, education and training in project management would also be desirable. The successful candidate will have previous administrative or project management experience, preferably in a research‑related role within a university environment. You will possess excellent interpersonal, networking and communications skills, including high-level relationship management skills, combined with the necessary budget and programme management skills. Experience and knowledge of the telecoms industry and of working at the industry/academic interface would be advantageous.
