Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent 18.5-hour Adult Social Care Worker / Social Worker to work alongside Deaf/Deafblind people in North Somerset. If you are a qualified Social Worker, the starting salary will be commensurate with your Social Work qualification.
You will join a well-established and supportive Adult Social Care Locality Team, with base options in Castlewood, Clevedon, or the Town Hall Weston Super Mare, with hybrid working available. Please note that the Clevedon office will close by 2025, and the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood is under consultation, potentially at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.
Your main responsibility will be to work with the Deaf community across North Somerset, supporting Deaf individuals who use British Sign Language as their first language.
You will need:
* A passion for working with the Deaf community in a strength-based approach.
* Good knowledge of Deaf awareness.
* British Sign Language at level 2 or above is preferable.
* A background or understanding of health and social care or transferable skills relevant to the job.
* IT skills to operate various in-house IT systems.
* To maintain and develop links with Health and social care colleagues and voluntary sector agencies.
* To organise Deaf Awareness week annually in May with partner agencies.
* To attend Deaf community groups to provide support, information, and advice.
* To consider equipment needs for Deaf/deafblind/hard of hearing individuals in their homes.
This role offers development opportunities to deepen understanding of the Deaf community and their needs now and in the future.
As an Adult Social Care Worker / Social Worker, you will work within legislative frameworks including the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Your duties will include undertaking Care Act Assessments, creating care plans focusing on individual strengths and outcomes, completing Mental Capacity Assessments, and participating in Best Interest Decision making when appropriate.
We will leverage your transferable skills and provide training to promote the rights and choices of people with care and support needs, supporting asset-based approaches and access to resources to meet their outcomes. This may include supporting positive risk-taking to promote independence, safety, and wellbeing within the Deaf community.
