SEN Specialist Teacher - Year 7

Location: Chesham

Are you a passionate and experienced SEN Specialist Teacher who thrives on making a real difference? We are seeking someone who can develop and deliver high-quality teaching for a Year 7 cohort, in a setting that supports children with additional learning and social/emotional needs.

About The School & The Children You'll Support

* The school is an outstanding provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with social, emotional and mental health needs, moderate and severe learning difficulties, and some with associated cognition & learning challenges.
* Our Year 7 group comprises students transitioning from primary settings, many of whom benefit from highly individualised learning plans, differentiated resources, multi-sensory teaching approaches, and close pastoral support.
* The environment is nurturing, structured yet flexible, with small class sizes, dedicated support staff, and a strong emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion and personal development as well as academic progress.

Your Role & Responsibilities

* Develop, plan and deliver a full suite of Year 7 teaching materials and resources tailored to the needs of students with SEN; ensuring accessibility, differentiation, adaptation for different learning styles.
* Lead lessons in core and foundation subjects appropriate to Year 7, applying evidence-based methods (multi-sensory teaching, scaffolding, collaborative / group work, etc.).
* Monitor, assess and report on student progress; use formative/summative assessment to adapt lesson plans and resources.
* Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists and other staff to create Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or EHCP-based targets.
* Manage classroom behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate behaviour support plans.
* Maintain a safe, supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Essential
Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge Required

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* Experience teaching Year 7, preferably in a SEN setting or with students who have complex learning needs.
* Strong knowledge of SEN pedagogies & strategies, e.g. structure & routines, differentiation, multi-sensory teaching, behaviour management.
* Excellent planning skills; ability to design and adapt resources/materials.
* Strong classroom management skills; calm, patient, resilient.
* Good ICT skills; ability to use technology to support learning.
* Strong communication skills - able to engage with students, parents/carers, colleagues.

Desirable

* Experience with EHCPs, IEPs, or other formal individual learning planning structures.
* Training or experience in specific methods (e.g. TEACCH, ABA, PECS, Makaton or other communication systems).
* Experience or interest in pastoral support, social/emotional learning, mental health awareness.
* Familiarity with inclusive curriculum design.
