Trust Fellow within Critical Care

This role will support the running of both Critical Care units in Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals and will also support the provision of on‑call services across both sites. The post will complement our current junior and middle‑grade rotas to continue to provide the high level of care for which our units are proud to deliver.
Roles will include the review and management of patients on the Critical Care unit, the review of patients referred to Critical Care, and active participation in the Adult and Paediatric Cardiac Arrest teams as well as the Trauma team.
You will be expected to deliver all procedures required for the management of current in‑patients and stabilisation of new admissions except percutaneous tracheostomies. It is vital that you are able to work within the flat hierarchy we maintain and work with all members of the MDT.
It is hoped that you will also support the educational and research programme of the department, and you will be supported in these roles.
Main duties of the job
* Provide care to Critical Care patients.
* Review Critical Care referrals from throughout the hospital.
* Support the provision of an on‑call rota in a 1:8 frequency.
* Support the MDT on Critical Care.
* Participate in shared decision‑making for ongoing management of Critical Care patients.
Professional Development, Education and Training
* Support the departmental educational programme and attend teaching when available on duty, including radiology teaching (every Tuesday), education sessions (every Friday) and departmental M & M alternated monthly.
Management and Leadership
* Show strong and clear leadership at all times, particularly as part of the out‑of‑hours Critical Care team.
Research and Development
* Support recruitment into ongoing research projects.
* Support the department’s extensive research portfolio, including the role as Associate PI.
Communications and Working Relationships
* Provide high‑quality, clear and comprehensive communication at all times.
* Communicate regularly with patients and involve them where possible in shared decision‑making about their ongoing medical management.
* Communicate with relatives and next of kin in a professional and kind manner at all times, especially around sensitive situations.
* Communicate effectively with all members of the MDT and other specialties.
Clinical Governance
* Participate in the robust Clinical Governance process, including monthly CG meetings and two monthly mortality and morbidity review sessions.
Qualifications / Training
* Full GMC registration.
* Primary FRCA.
* ALS / APLS / PLS.
Knowledge and Skills
* Maintain a patient’s airway independently out of hours.
* Independently site central venous access.
* Teaching experience.
Clinical Experience
* Minimum 12 months anaesthetic experience and completion of IAC.
* Ability to work closely with Critical Care MDT.
