Line Management Responsibility None Reports to Senior Student Wellbeing Advisor Start date (dependent on successful completion of relevant checks) The role The Student Wellbeing Advisor (SWA) works as part of the Student Support team within Student Engagement, collaborating with other team members to provide both proactive and reactive support to students and learners registered at the University, across a range of pastoral issues. The SWA will offer support and guidance to students on general matters and will have particular responsibility for advising and administering support for students with disabilities and learning differences. The postholder will work as part of the global network and work independently and part of a dynamic team. The team works at a fast pace providing advice and guidance to current and incoming students and to faculty on reasonable adjustments, complex student cases and adopting UK sector norms in a global context. Duties and Responsibilities Disability & Learning Differences Provide advice and support to students and applicants seeking to apply for the Disabled Students Allowance Provide support for all students/learners registered at the University with disabilities and learning differences; working closely with the global Northeastern University (NU) disability teams to ensure appropriate support and adjustments are in place Responsible for completing Learning Support Plans for students and communicating these as appropriate to academic and professional service departments to ensure agreed support is provided Collaborate with the Registry's assessment team and timetabling to ensure special examination arrangements are in place in accordance with the student’s reasonable adjustments. Regularly review the disability support being offered, identifying any gaps in support and making recommendations to the Head of Student Support Participate in Support to Study meetings with students and faculty. Offer advice on support available, prepare learning support plans and follow-up with faculty and students as required to enable students’ continued study Financial Provide advice and guidance to students on student loans and other financial matters such as budgeting and good money management Promote and review applications for the Student Hardship Fund, ensuring compliance and appropriate allocation Coordinate events for Student Support such as awareness days and National Student Money week Act as a University representative to the National Association of Disability Practitioners (NADP) and Nationals Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA) General/Other duties Act as a first point of contact, via email, phone and in person, for students seeking support for pastoral issues including First Point desk Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant University policies relating to student support such as Support to Study, Safeguarding, Prevent, Extenuating Circumstances and Change in Circumstances/Break in Studies Provide support and assistance to students considering applying for extenuating circumstances and break in study Engage in student recruitment events, such as open days and offer holder days to represent Student Support Participate in student Case Management meetings within Student Support Build relationships and partnerships with colleagues in Boston. Supporting with the handover of students and Pre Departure Orientation (PDO) sessions Maintaining and updating Student Support resources and promoting Student Support within the University including CANVAS, TARGETConnect To provide “back-up” support for other members of the team, ensuring familiarity with other areas of service provision such as finance and mental health support in order to provide students with a basic level of guidance when colleagues are absent or unavailable To present individually, or with other team members, workshops and seminars on student wellbeing and development issues (i.e. stress management, relaxation, healthy eating). Experience Experience of providing guidance or support to students in HE or FE [E] Experience of working with people from a range of ethnicities, socio-economic groups and nationalities. [E] Experience of supporting people with disabilities.
