Early Years SENCO
Location: Nelson | Job Type: Full-Time | Status: Permanent
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the identification, planning, and support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
* Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted support strategies.
* Work closely with parents, carers, external professionals, and agencies to ensure coordinated care and early intervention.
* Guide and support colleagues in implementing inclusive practices.
* Monitor children's progress and ensure accurate documentation and records are maintained.
* Contribute to and deliver staff training related to SEND and inclusion.
* Ensure compliance with current SEND legislation and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Essential Requirements
* Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Childcare/Early Years.
* Substantial experience supporting children with SEND in an early years setting.
* Strong working knowledge of: EHCPs, Portage and other early intervention strategies, and The SEND Code of Practice.
* Experience liaising with external professionals (e.g. health visitors, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists).
* Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills.
* Ability to mentor and support a team in inclusive, child-centred practice.
Desirable
* SENCO qualification or training (or willingness to undertake it).
